250 scholarships opened to train Maldivians in therapeutic and rehabilitation treatments

Ministry of Higher Education yesterday announced the opening of 250 scholarships aimed at training Maldivians in therapeutic and rehabilitation treatments.

The scholarships will be available for study both within the Maldives and abroad.

Overseas opportunities are open in SAARC countries, as well as China, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Russia, Czech Republic, Belarus, South Africa, Egypt, and Fiji.

Scholarship opportunities include:

Bachelor’s degree in Maldives – 120 opportunities

  • Psychology: 30
  • Counseling & Behavior Therapy: 30
  • Occupational Therapy: 30
  • Speech Therapy: 30

Master’s degree in Maldives – 20 opportunities

  • Psychology: 20

Studying abroad for a bachelor’s degree – 30 opportunities

  • Speech Therapy: 30

Master’s degree abroad – 80 opportunities

  • Occupational Therapy: 30
  • Speech Therapy: 30
  • Behavior Analysis / Behavior Therapy: 20

The deadline for applications is April 20 at 1:30 p.m.

National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) released statistics last January highlighting the need for these programs:

  • People with disabilities registered: 15,236
  • Mental disabilities: 2,173 (up from 2,116 in December)
  • Physical disabilities: 4,272 (up from 4,223 in December)
  • Multiple disabilities: third highest category
