Two expatriates who were arrested while crossing the Sinamale' Bridge carrying alcohol are to be deported.
Police said today that two Bangladeshi men had been arrested for possession and suspected sale of alcohol. The two have been identified as Zahir Hosein, 33, and Sojan Sultan, 36.
Police said that the two were arrested in an operation carried out based on intelligence reports that alcohol was being transported from the container jetty at Hulhumale' Phase 1 to Male'.
The operation was carried out yesterday by Hulhumale' 1 Police and Bridge and Highway Police. They intercepted the two men on the bridge and conducted a search, upon which they found 28 bottles of alcohol.
Police said that the two have now been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
