Signatures are being collected for a petition calling for a policy change to allow promotion rights despite taking a six-month maternity leave.
The petition has been created by Mariyam Shifana Hussain. It states that when civil servants' performance is gauged under the new pay framework, if the period of work is less than 90 days, performance appraisal marks are not included in granting promotions. This infringes upon the rights of staff who take approved 6 months' maternity leave, it states.
The online petition calls for a resolution to the challenges faced in step promotion.
It states that maternity leave is an important factor in women empowerment and family wellbeing, but the current policy prevents the true purpose of the leave being fulfilled and presents distress to working mothers.
The petition can be signed using eFaas accounts on the parliament's e-petition portal.
The petition was launched on March 9, and has gathered 1,180 signatures to date. Signing the petition will remain open until May 4.
