Salahudeen School now requires students to seek official approval for wearing jackets or cardigans in air-conditioned classrooms.
A circular sent to the parent-teacher communication group outlines guidelines for wearing jackets if students feel cold in air-conditioned classrooms.
Parents should officially seek approval from the school if the student wishes to wear jackets in class. A form should be submitted to school stating the reason why the student needs to wear a jacket.
The school must notify the leading teacher and teachers of the relevant grade if permission is granted to a student, the circular states.
The changes proposed to the uniform code, set to come into effect next year, includes jackets, which do not require prior authorization.
Jackets that students wear in class must be a single-colour design, without any patterns, logos, images, or writing.
Salahudeen School said that they encourage students to wear plain black or grey jackets, without hoods.
Jackets can only be used inside classrooms. Wearing or carrying jackets in school halls, corridors, grounds, or other common areas is prohibited.
If the jacket is not in use, it must be kept inside school bags. It cannot be kept on desks or elsewhere.
If students do not comply with the guidelines, the permission can be revoked, the circular said.
The policy comes into effect from next Wednesday, and is set for review in the last two weeks of each academic year.
Several other schools have also made guidelines on the use of jackets in air-conditioned classrooms, while the government has initiated the 'Cool School' project to install ACs in all classrooms across the country.
