Ministry of Higher Education Maldives has revised regulations governing the President’s Scholarship, allowing top-high achieving students to pursue higher education in any field.

Under the new rules issued yesterday, students who achieve A* grades in five A Level subjects will be eligible to study in a discipline of their choice under the President’s Scholarship.

Previously, the scholarship was also open to any field of the students' choice. However, the ministry announced that scholarships will be limited to areas listed under the "training needs requirement", prompting concern among some on social media over potential restrictions.

Recipients of the President’s Scholarship are required to serve the government for between four and seven years after completing their studies. Those who do not fulfil this obligation must repay the cost of the scholarship as determined by the authorities.
