President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated last night that he is considering an act being drafted up where citizens can conduct a "Recall Vote", whereby they will receive the power to remove Parliament members and councilors.
During Sangu TV's "Espresso with Raees" program, the President stated that there are additional considerations under the amendment agenda.

"There would be no point in holding the Parliamentary Election in the middle of the term. The Presidential Election and the Parliamentary Election should be held and members elected on the same day. If a member does something that voids a condition in the act during their elected term, the citizens will get the opportunity to remove them from their seat," said President Muizzu.
"Let us say that the performance of Parliament members and councilors have fallen. Or they are in violation of a provision in the act. At that point, the citizens will get the opportunity to submit a petition and upon a certain percentage enact certain provisions that are detailed in the act."

According to the President, this change will strengthen Parliament, council and government operations, with councils and Parliament proceeding in a fair manner, along with a regulation that will hold them accountable.
During last week's press conference held by President Muizzu, he had stated that the government is looking to bring about amendments to acts after the referendum vote on 4th April. This includes the amendments to the Constitution, as was highlighted by the President.
