Experienced legal lawyer Shaheen Hameed has stated that the results achieved by holding the Presidential Election and the Parliamentary Election on the same day will be better than they are now.
In a panel discussion held by the Bar Council today, while preparations are being made to take a public opinion vote on the constitutional amendment to hold two elections on the same day, Shaheen expressed his support for holding the two elections on one day.
Shaheen stated that he does not believe many negative things will arise from holding two elections on the same day. According to him, the result of this change will be the transition of the executive branch and the legislative branch during the same period.
"I see that holding them at once will yield better results. That is because things like the use of different matters or powers will decrease. That is because it is not known who will be elected in the Presidential Election or the Parliamentary election beforehand," Shaheen said.
Shaheen stated that no electoral rights are diminished by holding two elections on the same day. He noted that the change being brought to the Constitution is not the merging of the two elections, but rather conducting both elections on the same day.
"I do not believe that holding two elections on the same day will bring a major change to the framework of the Constitution. And I do not believe a major change will come to the system of oversight either," Shaheen said.
