Ahmed Solih Alididi, a longtime public servant and key figure in the development of Addu City, has passed away at the age of 92.

Alididi, Seenu Hithadhoo, Fehivilaage, passed away early today at Addu Equatorial Hospital.

His funeral will be held at Masjid-At-Taqwa (Hussain Moosa Mosque) in Hithadhoo after Isha prayers, with visitation from 2 pm to 6:30 pm today.

He served the Maldivian state for 45 years, beginning in 1965 and retiring in 2009.

His roles included chieftain of Hithadhoo, Atoll Chief of Addu, and Member of Parliament representing Addu. He also held managerial positions at Gan Airport, Gan STO, and Hithadhoo Stelco.

“Ahmed Solih has rendered invaluable service to the people of Addu and contributed significantly to the city’s development and progress,” said the Addu City Council.

Alididi was also known for opposing the Suvadive separatist movement in the four southern atolls, advocating loyalty to the Maldivian state and promoting dialogue and peace with movement leaders.

Beyond public service, he made contributions to sports in Addu. He founded the football club A.S.A, which was the first from Addu to compete in a national tournament, finishing second.

He was also recognized by the Addu City Council with an honorary award for his social work.
