Three candidates have filed their nominations for the post of Police Commissioner following the opening of a second round of nominations.
Deputy Police Commissioner Farhad Fikry, Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed (2four) and Assistant Commissioner Abdulla Shareef have submitted their candidacies, a media official from the Ministry of Homeland Security said.
The position became vacant last month after the sudden retirement of former Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen. Deputy Commissioner Farhad has been handling the responsibilities of the post temporarily.
The initial nomination deadline expired on Monday without any applications, prompting the ministry to extend the deadline until Thursday.
This marks the second police commissioner to retire under the current government. Ali Shujau, Naveen’s predecessor, also stepped down last year.
