The leader of Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim, stated today that even when considering experience, integrity, service, and capability, there is no other candidate as qualified for the position of Male' Mayor as the former Chief of Defence Force, Moosa Ali Jaleel, who is contesting for the seat on the PNC ticket.
Qasim, who has decided to back PNC candidates in the local council elections to be held on April 4, made these remarks in a social media post revealing his support for bringing Jaleel in as the Mayor of Male'.
"I request the beloved citizens who are hoping for a diligent and far-sighted captain to run Male' City, and all my brothers and sisters who listen to my voice and accept my word, to support and vote for Moosa Jaleel (Candidate Number 4) as Mayor of Male' City in this election," Qasim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Maamigili constituency, said on X.
Highlighting Jaleel’s achievements, Qasim stated that he is a hero with a proud record of national service who has performed invaluable services in the defense of the Maldives. Qasim also noted that the Maldives has recognized the value of Jaleel's service, and that he is a recipient of national honors and the Order of Military Honour (Nishaan Askareege Izzathuge Veriyaa).
"His strong national resolve is proven alone by how he stepped out before the enemies with courage and faith, using himself as a shield for the nation against the attempted coup attack faced by the country on November 3, 1988," Qasim said.
He said that from then until today, Jaleel has always remained ready for the nation. Qasim further stated that Jaleel fulfilled the duties of every job entrusted to him by every government with honesty.
“There is no stain on his character. He has done nothing to belittle anyone. He is a well-mannered and experienced individual who has earned the respect and affection of all,” Qasim said in the post.
In addition to Qasim, the first Mayor of Male', Sarangu Adam Manik, has also supported the ruling party PNC’s mayoral candidate, Jaleel. Adam Manik is currently participating in Jaleel’s campaign activities.
