The funeral prayer of former Deputy Police Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Abdulla will be held at the Islamic Centre after Asr prayers today.
Shakoor, 75, passed away on Tuesday morning in India, where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer. His body was brought back to the Maldives last night.
According to Kashunamaadhu page which provides details of funeral prayers, the funeral prayer is scheduled to take place at the Islamic Centre later today.
Shakoor retired from the Maldives National Defence Force and the police service after more than 43 years of service. He formally retired from the police on 5 March 2009.
At the time, he said he was satisfied with his contribution.
“I had originally decided to resign after 43 years of service. When the Police Act provided the opportunity for voluntary retirement, I chose to take it,” he said.
President Mohamed Muizzu extended condolences, describing Shakoor as a dedicated public servant who put the country first.
He noted Shakoor’s role in defending the Maldives during the 3 November 1988 coup attempt, as well as his contributions to improving prison conditions and tackling drug abuse.
