The trial of Saahil Ali, charged in the brutal killing of a young woman in a Male' residence, is nearing its end, with a verdict to be announced next month.
Shiau Mohamed Saeed of Fuvahmulah City was killed in a Male' residence in August 2022. Investigators later determined that her body had been mutilated after death. The State has charged Saahil, of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo with murder, along with several related offences.
The hearings in the case are being conducted behind closed doors. Both the trial and the charges have been kept confidential at the State's request.
Criminal Court said that summary statements were to be delivered in today's hearing, but the court granted Saahil's request for additional time. With this, delivery of summary statements and verdicts for two charges will be in a hearing scheduled for the second week of April, the court said.
The Criminal Court has previously said that the Attorney General's Office had decided against providing further legal representation on State expense to Saahil as he refused to cooperate with State-appointed lawyers.
