President Mohamed Muizzu has paid tribute to former Deputy Police Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Abdulla, describing him as a sincere public servant who dedicated his life to the country.
In a social media post, President Muizzu highlighted Shakoor’s decades of service across the Maldives National Defence Force and the police service, where he served for more than 43 years.
He said Shakoor played a key role in defending the Maldives during the attempted coup on 3 November 1988, and later contributed to improving prison conditions and efforts to combat drug abuse.
“He was a sincere man who put the country first throughout his life,” the president said.
Shakoor passed away at 10:15 am on Monday at the age of 75 while undergoing treatment for cancer in India.
His family is working to bring his body to Maldives.
