The announcement made by the Male' City Council where they were searching for a company to repair the Male' Hiyaa and Sinamale' flats has been voided.
The city council had made four announcements on 19th March regarding the flats. They include the search for a company in servicing, repairing and maintaining the elevators at Sinamale' 3, Sinamale' 4, and Male' Hiyaa 1 and Male' Hiyaa 2, along with the search for a company to repair and maintain the elevators for a one year period at Sinamale' 1 and Sinamale' 2.
The council also announced that they were searching for a company to repair and maintain the Sinamale' 3 and Sinamale' 4 flats for a one year period, along with the search for a company to repair and maintain the Male' Hiyaa 1 and Male' Hiyaa 2 flats for a one year period.
However, all of these announcements were canceled last night as the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure had made an announcement that they are looking for a company to prepare a status assessment regarding the repair of the flats.
The announcement from the ministry states that they are looking for companies who can prepare tenders required for checking the state of the buildings and for the repair and maintenance of said buildings. Applications can only be submitted by Maldivian companies, associations and consultancies that meet the specified requirements.
According to the ministry, emails are to be sent to the ministry before Thursday, 1:00pm if interested parties require more information. The deadline to submit the technical and financial proposals is 31st March, 1:00pm, as per the announcement.
The Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has said before that even though the flats are the responsibility of the city council, the ministry had decided to conduct an assessment as the buildings are connected to the habitability and protection of citizens.
The decision to tear down Male' Hiyaa flats and build other flats for people to live was made when President Muizzu was Mayor of Male'. An agreement was signed with Hong Kong's SF Project Consultancy on 17th August 2023 to design the building.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has also offered a special benefits package to residents of Male' Hiyaa and Sinamale' flats who have been unable to pay fines related to the flats for various reasons.
