The Housing Ministry has invited proposals for a detailed assessment of Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats as part of plans to carry out repair and maintenance works.
In an announcement on Monday, the Ministry of Housing said it is seeking consultancy services to prepare a comprehensive condition assessment and tender documentation for the renovation of the buildings.
The ministry invited proposals from qualified, locally registered organizations, firms and consultants, encouraging submissions that incorporate efficient assessment methods, documentation practices and technical solutions.
Requests for clarification must be submitted in writing to [email protected] before 1 pm on 26 March.
The move comes as Malé City Council last week issued separate announcements seeking contractors to repair and maintain Sinamalé flats 1,2,3,4, as well as service elevators in both Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa buildings.
According to the council, the maintenance contract will cover a one-year period. Following a clarification on Thursday, bidsubmissions are due by 6 April.
While both the ministry and the council are moving forward with maintenance and assessment work, the government has previously announced plans to demolish the flats and construct new buildings. No physical work on that project has begun.
Earlier this year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also introduced relief measures for residents of Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats, including the waiver of fines and compensation for those facing financial difficulties.
