Police have arrested a man in connection with a fire that broke out at a warehouse in Galolhu Hiyaa Roadhi yesterday.
In a statement, police said the suspect was detained under a court order as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred near the Galolhu mortuary on Wednesday last week.
The man has been identified as Hussain Shahbaan, 29, of Sabunam House, Laamu Maabaidhoo. He has been remanded in custody for five days.
Police have not released further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show a man entering the property shortly before the fire.
The video, shared on X by an anonymous account, shows a man arriving on a black Wave motorcycle, parking outside the building and entering the premises. He is seen wearing black sunglasses and a white-and-black checkered shirt.
According to timestamps in the footage, the individual enters the building at 10.33 am and leaves at 10.39 am. By 10.43am, smoke can be seen rising from the property as people gather nearby.
The building, currently used as a warehouse, is located on a narrow street adjacent to the mortuary.
