Third phase of Thinadhoo housing and road development project begins

The ministry said that it had received 1,022 applications for 200 housing units developed by the government by the time application deadlines closed.

The third phase of a major housing and road development project in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo has commenced, the housing ministry has said.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Housing and Construction said the Road Development Corporation (RDC) had been awarded the island’s road construction works, while a private contractor will develop 50 housing units.

The projects were officially inaugurated by Construction and Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib during a ceremony held in Thinadhoo.

The road development project will see 50 roads across the island covering 19.3 km asphalted and fitted with drainage systems. The work is scheduled to be completed within three years and nine months.

Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd has been contracted to construct 50 three bedroom flats under a contractor financing arrangement. The housing project is expected to be completed within one year and two months.

The ministry said the ceremony was attended by MPs representing Thinadhoo constituencies, along with officials from companies involved in the projects.

The ministry said that it had received 1,022 applications for 200 housing units developed by the government by the time application deadlines closed.

The ministry said they are currently evaluating submissions, with the list of recipients to be announced once the process is complete.
