One of the two cases regarding the referendum vote which covers the combining of the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections and for them to be held on the same day has been accepted by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has accepted a constitutional case that was filed by members of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) legal team, Aik Ahmed Easa and Ibrahim Shiyam.

Lawyers Aik and Shiyam state that the decree by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu regarding the referendum vote has a question that goes against the law, and that the vote cannot move forward if the question is included.

The Supreme Court has determined that the case is in line with their guidelines and have informed the lawyers that the case has been accepted.

Former Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain has also filed a constitutional case to the Supreme Court regarding the referendum vote. The case he filed seeks to determine that the amendment brought to the Constitution by the Parliament regarding the combining of the elections has been voided. It is unclear as to whether the case has been accepted.

MDP has previously filed a case regarding the referendum vote to the High Court. They requested an interim order to stop the vote but a decision has not been reached as to whether the case would be accepted.
