Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon gave his assurance today that there is no military threat to the Maldives amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Following the aggression launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28th, Iran has been launching powerful retaliatory strikes targeting not only Israel but also U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
Reports have circulated that Iran launched missile strikes targeting the US-UK military base, Diego Garcia (Chagos).
As the impact of the war draws so close to the Maldives, many are expressing concern regarding the potential danger to the country.
At a press conference held today by the special ministerial committee established in response to this war, Minister Ghassan assured that there is no such threat to the Maldives.
"There is no military threat to the Maldives at this time in connection with the war," he said.
Ghassan stated that since the day the war began, the government has proceeded in accordance with the decision not to provide Maldivian airspace or any other location to any country for the purposes of the war.
Iran later denied the reports claiming that they targeted Diego Garcia.
