President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the handover process for the Giraavaru Falhu plots will begin in June.
President Muizzu shared a progress picture of the Giraavaru Falhu land reclamation on X, stating that the reclamation is being done daily and that it will be finished in April.
He also stated that when the work finishes, the hand over of the plots will begin.
The Giraavaru Falhu plots will be given away to those who received plots under the previous government's "Binveriyaa" scheme. The government also presented an opportunity to some to change their plot to Gulhi Falhu with the changes that were brought about to the Giraavaru Falhu Land Use Plan.
With the changes to the Land Use Plan, a total of 4,072 plots will be handed over from Giraavaru Falhu.
Number of plots and sizes in Giraavaru Falhu:
- 2,605 plots spanning 1,250 square feet.
- 1,213 plots spanning 1,650 square feet.
- 253 plots spanning 2,050 square feet.
- One plot spanning 2,450 square feet.
Two dredgers, the Queen of the Netherlands and the Oranje, are currently in use to expedite the land reclamation of Giraavaru Falhu.
The Queen of the Netherlands is a massive dredger with a hopper capacity of 35,500 cubic meters. The Oranje has a hopper capacity of 22,000 cubic meters.
