Major fire breaks out at chemical warehouse in Male'.
A major fire has broken out at a warehouse storing chemicals and fertilizers in Maafannu, prompting an emergency response and the suspension of election-related activities nearby.
The fire started in a warehouse on Fulooniya in Maafannu, adjacent to the former Drug Court. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is working to bring the blaze under control.

The warehouse belongs to Prime Fertilizer, an importer of plant feed and various chemicals. An official said about 80 percent of the company’s goods, including chemical products, were stored in the facility.
The building is located next to the Elections Commission’s election centre, where candidates had been signing the final voter register at the time of the incident. The process has since been suspended.

“A date for the signing process will be announced later,” the commission said in a post on X.
The Elections Commission said no election documents had been damaged. Materials at the centre are being evacuated, with staff and police assisting in the operation.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, and it is not yet known whether anyone was inside the warehouse when it broke out.
In anincident earlier today, a fire broke out in a warehouse near the mortuary in Galolhu. That fire was brought under control but caused significant damage.
