Police have stated that four bicycles being ridden in violation of the Land Transport Act in Fuvahmulah were towed today.

Following the circulation of a video showing police loading a bicycle ridden by some children onto a police vehicle, some people have criticized the police, questioning what had occurred.

Police said that four bicycles were towed, one of which was towed because it had been modified in violation of regulations. The other three bicycles were towed for being ridden in a manner that poses a danger to road safety.

According to the police, the vehicles were withheld due to riding on the pavement, riding dangerously in a zigzag manner that obstructed other vehicles, and two people riding on a single bicycle. The video shows that one of the bicycles had been extensively modified. They also stated that these measures were taken within the legal framework to ensure the safety of all road users.

Typically, police tow motorized vehicles that violate regulations. Vehicles such as motorcycles and cars are towed and kept under police custody for 15–30 days.

However, the police did not specify for how long these bicycles were towed.
