One of the individuals prosecuted by the state in the case of Naeema Moosa, who was brutally murdered in N. Manadhoo, has been released from custody in consideration of his health condition.
In the case where Naeema was found murdered inside her home after being attacked with sharp objects in April 2023, the state is pursuing charges against Abdul Wahid Rifas of Finifenmaage, N. Manadhoo, Azuham Abdul Shakoor of Fehivilaage, N. Manadhoo, and Hassan Fawaz of Vinares, N. Manadhoo.
The decision to release Fawaz from custody was made by the Criminal Court at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, after Maldives Correctional Service informed the office that his health condition was obstructing the provision of treatment while in jail.
A statement released by the PG Office today noted that Fawaz was released on the conditions that he does not leave his home at night, does not travel outside the Malé area, presents himself to a police station daily to sign, and submits medical documents related to his treatment every 15 days.
According to the statement, if he violates any of these conditions, the court will be requested to remand Fawaz back into custody until the conclusion of the trial.
