The former Chairman of the Thalassemia Society, Abdul Muizzu Hassan, passed away today.

Muizzu passed away earlier today while receiving treatment in the ICU of Hulhumalé Hospital. An announcement was also made yesterday seeking six donors to provide blood for him as his condition deteriorated.

Muizzu, who was employed at HDC, was also a current member of the Thalassemia Society's Executive Committee. He was a young man living with thalassemia who advocated for the rights of thalassemia patients, raised public awareness, and performed extensive voluntary work for the cause.

Following Muizzu's passing, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent his condolences to the family. President Muizzu stated that he received the news of Muizzu's passing with deep sorrow.

"He was a young man who showed a beautiful example of courage and kindness, also in his capacity as the President of the HDC Staff Club," the President said.
