The Ministry of Construction stated yesterday that there would be 455 kiosks that will be selling fish, vegetables and fruits in the new market which will be built on the site of Male's Local Market.
In a statement issued yesterday by the ministry, it said that an agreement has been signed with TrustEng Maldives Private Limited for the market project, named the "Malé Wet Market Complex," to be built on the site where the Local Market currently stands.

As per the agreement, the total area of the market will be 95,032.32 square feet. The ministry stated that each square foot will cost MVR 1,329.65 and that it will be fully operational with the required equipment when construction is completed.
Important points regarding the Wet Market project
- Fish Market: The ground floor will have 110 stainless steel kiosks. Along with that, an ice plant capable of producing five tons of ice to keep the fish fresh will also be available.
- Fruit and Vegetable Market: This market will span three floors, from the first to the third floor, and will have 115 kiosks at each floor, totaling 345 kiosks.
- Parking: Basement parking will have 400 spots for motorbikes.
- Food and Drink: The terrace will have a modernized food court.

This project that has been awarded to TrustEng Maldives Private Limited is to be completed within one year and six months, with the total price of the project being MVR 126,359,594.94.
The ministry released model drawings of the market's design yesterday.
