The Elections Commission (EC) decided today to open the opportunity for candidates to sign the registry of people eligible to vote in the two elections and the referendum to be held on the 4th of April.

In an announcement, the commission stated that it has decided to open the opportunity for candidates, or persons designated by candidates, to sign the final registry of people eligible to vote in the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections, as well as the public referendum, from next Tuesday until Thursday.

The announcement noted that the signing by candidates is scheduled to take place at the Elections Commission's Election Center.

The EC stated that the signing of the registry by candidates will proceed each day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and from 9:30 PM to 12:00 AM.

The announcement specified that when a person designated by a candidate goes to sign instead of the candidate, they must bring a letter signed by the candidate stating the full name, permanent address, and ID card number of the person attending on their behalf, along with a copy of the candidate's ID card.

The announcement also stated that the person attending to sign the registry must bring their original ID card.

The Elections Commission published the final list of eligible voters for the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections, and the public referendum, on the 11th of March.

A total of 294,876 people are eligible to vote in these elections. This includes 144,506 women and 150,370 men.

To facilitate voting in these elections, more than 190 centers are being set up in the Malé area. This includes 132 centers in Malé, 34 centers in Hulhumalé Phase 1, 18 centers in Hulhumalé Phase 2, and nine centers in Villimalé.

There are 1,592 candidates competing in the Local Council election and 1,368 candidates in the Women's Development Committee election. Upon going to vote in these elections, voters will also be asked for their "yes/no" vote on holding the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on the same day.
