Elections Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for applications to observe the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections.
In an announcement, the EC said the decision was made after political parties requested more time to apply for observer status.
The deadline has now been extended until 12:00am tomorrow night.
According to the commission, observer passes will be issued to political parties and organisations for monitoring the election and vote counting process. Each party or organisation will be allowed observers not exceeding 10 percent of the total number of ballot boxes used in the election.
However, only one observer from a party or organisation may be present at a polling station at any given time.
Alongside the two elections, a referendum on holding Presidential and Parliamentary elections on the same day will also take place on the 4th of next month.
EC has previously announced that 294,876 people are eligible to vote in the polls, including 144,506 women and 150,370 men.
