Dhigurah fire at staff blocks claims five expat lives

A raging fire at an accommodation block in ADh. Dhigurah last night led to the deaths of five expatriate workers, and left three others seriously injured.

A raging fire at an accommodation block in ADh. Dhigurah last night led to the deaths of five expatriate workers, and left three others seriously injured. 

Two of the more seriously injured victims have been transferred to capital Male' for further treatment, Police said. 

A special team of investigators are to travel to Dhigurah to look into the incident, Police said. The team also includes a medical doctor. 

It has been reported that the fire was caused by a gas leak. However, no official statements have yet been released regarding the incident. 

A Dhigurah resident said that the fire broke out while two of the block's residents had been cooking late at night. At the time, the rest of the people living there had been asleep. 

Police said that they received reports of the incident at 2am today.
