The Housing Ministry has amended regulations to allow people with disabilities to apply separately under the government’s social housing scheme.
In an announcement issued last night, the ministry said applications will be open from the 24th of March until the end of April.
Applications must be submitted through the dedicated housing portal, in accordance with the revised regulations.
The ministry had previously introduced a special category for people with disabilities within the housing scheme, but applicants were only required to indicate their disability by selecting the relevant section in the application form.
Under the new change, people with disabilities will be able to apply separately and will also benefit from relaxed residency requirements.
While the general eligibility criteria require 15 consecutive years of residence in the Male' area, the requirement has been reduced for people with disabilities.
According to the ministry, applicants with disabilities who have lived in Male' for five consecutive years will now be eligible to apply for flats. Those who have relocated to Male' to access services related to their disability, or who frequently travel to Male' for such services, will also be allowed to submit applications.
The housing scheme will allocate 7,900 flats and 15,000 plots of land measuring 1,250 square feet each.
