Viluntheri Raajje (Resilient Maldives), the team in charge of the Maldives' National Development Masterplan for the next 20 years, has stated that the draft for the plan has been finished.
The office is under the Finance Ministry, with an official from the office telling Mihaaru News last week that the plan is currently in the review stage.
The 20-year Masterplan is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's presidential pledges. The work to create the plan was awarded to a consultancy firm by the name of Nexia Maldives.
The company's teams have gone to inhabited islands and collected data and opinions of the people who live there.
The Viluntheri office said that they would launch the Masterplan in January 2026, but the work has seen some delays.
Project lead Mohamed Nafeez gave information regarding the project during a public relations meeting last year, where he said along with gathering public opinion, an international team of five experts who will be in charge of creating the financial plan for the project will also arrive very soon. These include an economic, financial and geo consultant.
Nafeez also said that their expenses will be covered from outside sources.
Nafeez said that all planning stages will be completed around June 2026. Before that, public consent will be ensured, he stated.
The government's aim is to turn Maldives into a developed country by 2040.
