The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that there will be a colorful three-day Eid celebration of national quality to mark the reopening of Sultan Park on Eid after being closed down for repairs.

The park was closed for repairs by the Construction Ministry on 20th August 2025.

As per yesterday's Eid announcement by the MNDF, the government has decided to open Sultan Park on Fitr Eid this year.

The announcement states that the military, police and 10 government SOEs will be participating in the "Eid Haveeru 1447" (Evening of Eid 1447) event, which is being organized by MNDF.

The event will begin on Fitr Eid at 4:00pm and conclude at 6:00pm, with activities to be held at Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale'.

The MNDF said that while taking the public's reception to last year's event into account, this year's Eid Haveeru 1447 will include activities that start at the marble area at the Islamic Center and will include the Republic Square and the area around the Presidential Jetty in Male'.

Eid Haveeru 1447 activities will also be held at Hulhumale's Central Park, Hulhumale' Phase 2's Hiyaa Park and Villimale's football stadium.

The MNDF also stated that there will be sports, entertainment activities and Eid presents being given away, along with stalls to be prepared by state institutions and business companies where games and sports activities will be available as well.

Those who attend will be able to experience the military uniforms, weapons used in operations and land and sea vehicles within the military, along with the chance to take pictures with them.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Sultan Park is to be redeveloped so that the thicket of trees would be reduced to allow people of all ages to walk by them in comfort.

The Sultan Park was developed to what it currently is during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration when President Muizzu was the Housing Minister. The park had a snow park as well but was closed down shortly afterward.

At the time, the President said that work was being done to change the winter building to a gaming arcade. He also said that Sultan Park is to be redeveloped to show the identity of Maldivians and Maldives' history, with many activities to be experienced once work on the park finishes.
