Police have said today that TikTok user Ahmed Amir (Booga) has failed to appear despite having been summoned over videos he shared mocking Islam.
Police announced on February 24 that they were looking for Amir, 51, of H. Filikurige, in relation to a case where he is accused of mocking Islam on various social media platforms, making statements that adversely affect Maldives' religious unity, and calling to dissolve the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The announcement at the time directed Amir to present himself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 4pm yesterday.
A Police media official revealed that Amir had failed to attend.
"The matter will be investigated, and as it proceeds, we will know what further action is to be taken," they said.
Amir has revealed on TikTok that he is married to a foreigner and currently lives abroad. He does, however, visit Maldives every now and then.
