Applications for third intake of the Maldives National Service, which was introduced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to build up ethically good youth who can serve, is currently underway, starting from yesterday.
As per yesterday's announcement from the Defense Ministry, those who are aged between 16 to 27 can apply for the program.
The ministry stated that those who are not 18 years of age yet can also apply if there are no objections from their legal guardian and if they are in good health.
The program lasts three months, with training set to begin in the last week of May at the MNDF Composite Training Center, Lh. Maafilaafushi.
The first batch of trainees who went for National Service in October 2025 saw 350 trainees from 108 islands, of which 64 were women and 286 were men. The average age of the trainees is 18 years old.
Of the 350 trainees, 346 graduated in December.
The second batch of 350 trainees left for Maafilaafushi on 24th January.
The government's aim is to complete training for 1,000 youth within this year.
