Five individuals have been arrested for smuggling drugs into the country.
Police said that over 6kg of drugs were found on three of the five arrested at Velana International Airport.
Two Indians and one Maldivian was arrested in relation to this case. These are:
- Ali Irufan, 28, of Hithilaage, GDh. Gahdhoo
- Danushkandhan Gopal, 19, India
- Kathirivil Manimaran, 21, India
These three were arrested last Tuesday on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the country, and being involved in drug sales and trafficking, Police said.
The court has placed Irufan in remand in custody until the end of trial, while the two Indians were remanded for five days.
The second case involves the arrest of two Indians who arrived in Maldives from India. These are:
- Jainab Wajid Ali, 25
- Mohamed Nawaz Dhayathar, 21
The two were handed over to Police by Customs after discovering over a kilo of drugs in their luggage on their arrival in the country.
The court has placed both in remand in custody for five days.
