The police have released the identity of an individual being sought for mocking Islam on the social media platform TikTok.
The person identified in the announcement is Hussain Yoosuf, 44, of Hiyaleege, N. Kudafari.
Police stated that he is being sought for insulting and mocking Islam, attempting to disrupt the unity of Maldivian citizens, and spreading false information regarding the principles of Islam and creating religious division through TikTok.
Police further explained that he is being summoned for an investigation they are conducting, but because his current whereabouts are unknown, they have been unable to deliver the summons notice to him.
It has been learned that Hussain Yoosuf resides in Romanshorn, a town in the Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, where he is married to a local and has obtained citizenship.
The police have issued an announcement ordering him to present himself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building by 12:00 PM on the 18th of this month.
Among the remarks he has made on social media are claims that he receives revelations (wahy), and he has spoken in a manner that insults the Islamic faith and the Holy Prophet.
Furthermore, he has ridiculed Islam and spoken various disparaging things about the religion. On the platform, he mocked religion by claiming that Allah had sent revelations to him and that revelations are not sent only to the Holy Prophet.
In addition to these and many other blasphemous remarks, he has also claimed to be the Prophet Yoosuf.
