The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology opened applications for the position of Commissioner of Police today.
According to an announcement released by the Ministry, officers currently holding the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or higher are invited to apply for the post.
The window for applications will remain open until the 23rd of this month.
The position of Commissioner of Police became vacant following the sudden retirement of the former Commissioner, Ismail Naveen. Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikuree is currently serving as the acting head of the service.
According to regulations, in the event the Commissioner's post becomes vacant, a Deputy Commissioner must be appointed to oversee the institution temporarily.
At present, Farhad is the only officer holding the rank of Deputy Commissioner.
This marks the second time a Commissioner of Police has retired during the current administration. The previous Commissioner, Ali Shujau, also retired from the post.
