Two Indian youth have been arrested at Velana International Airport on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the country.
The two individuals who were arrested are Kathirivil Manimaran, 21, and Dhanushkandhan Gopal, 19.
The Criminal Court yesterday placed both in remand in custody for six days. The two requested legal representation.
Police said that when the two men arrived in the Maldives, their behaviour raised suspicion, prompting Customs to inspect their luggage, where officers discovered bottles filled with drugs.
Testing of the contents of the bottles showed it to be hash oil, with the combined weight reaching 6.7kg, Police said.
