Courses to be started to teach cultural crafts

The Minister said that, work has begun on forming Occupational Consistency Standards in eight areas.

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed stated today that a decision has been made to start cultural craft-related courses in eight fields.

During a press conference held at the President's Office, the Minister said that, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to establish national standards, work has begun on forming Occupational Consistency Standards in eight areas.

These include:

  • National Certificate in Feyli Weaving
  • National Certificate in Kasabu Weaving
  • National Certificate in Thundukunaa Weaving
  • National Certificate in Blacksmithing 
  • National Certificate in Carpentry 
  • National Certificate in Weaving Cultural Items such as Fan, Rukufathi, and Sataa
  • National Certificate in Saanthi Weaving
  • National Certificate in Lacquerwork 

According to the Minister, Certificate Level 3 qualifications will be awarded in each of these fields. The Minister also stated that the first draft from the first advisory committee of the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA) has been completed.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the President has decided to grant an allowance of MVR 500 for every meeting attended by members of the MNSDA technical panel and sector councils.
