The Ministry of Housing has warned that individuals are allegedly charging money from members of the public in exchange for land and flats under government housing projects.
In a statement, the ministry said all housing projects are allocated strictly in accordance with rules and procedures published in the Gazette.
It stressed that no individual can obtain land or flats under any government housing scheme outside the provisions outlined in official gazette notices or ministry announcements.
The ministry further clarified that it does not request any form of payment from beneficiaries allocated land or flats through government programmes.
“The general public is advised to beware of such scams being conducted by various parties. They are also advised not to make any money or other such transactions with anyone in order to obtain land or flats under a government programme,” the statement read.
The ministry urged anyone who has made financial transactions in an attempt to acquire land or flats outside official procedures to immediately contact the Police Anti-Scam Centre hotline at 125.
Authorities also noted recent cases of individuals calling residents while posing as representatives of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), falsely claiming the recipient had won a flat under ongoing housing projects.
The public has been reminded to verify all housing-related information through official government channels.
