As part of the government's efforts to spread the knowledge of the Quran, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated last night that foreign teachers have been brought to teach in 17 islands.

At the huffaz graduation ceremony, the minister said that there are ongoing efforts to bring in Quran teachers from other countries to teach in Maldivian islands that are lacking teachers.

As per the information that was publicized by the ministry last night, expatriate teachers who are proficient in Quran have been sent to 17 islands in Maldives.

While there are a lot of students in Quran classes, most of the classes have children and young adults, said Minister Shaheem. The majority of students are studying at the National Center for the Holy Quran and scholarly institutes.

Minister Shaheem announced last night that there are currently 301 huffaz in the country, with an additional 1,800 memorizing the Quran through various classes.

He noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu places high priority on the training of huffaz, stating that the ultimate goal of the Islamic Ministry is to increase the number of huffaz to 500 within this government's five years in office.

"The ministry currently is looking to make Maldives the nation that has the largest number of huffaz relative to the population. This will be a great honor for Maldives," said Shaheem.

Last night's ceremony saw 31 huffaz graduate, including 19 male huffaz and 12 female.
