Two Maldivians held over attempt to claim drug-filled luggage

Two Maldivian men who went to claim the luggage of the Malaysian woman who was arrested at Velana International Airport on suspicion of drug smuggling have also been taken into custody.

Two Maldivian men who went to claim the luggage of the Malaysian woman who was arrested at Velana International Airport on suspicion of drug smuggling have also been taken into custody. 

Ranjini Jeevananthan, 38, was arrested after a large quantity of drugs were found in her luggage during inspection after arrival in Maldives. Police said today that drugs discovered in her luggage weighs over 2kg.

Now, two Maldivian men have been arrested for colluding with the Malaysian to smuggle drugs into the country. The two are Looth Ibrahim, 29, of Furusathu, GDh. Vaadhoo, and Ahmed Rishmah, 21, of Sunlight Villa, GA. Dhaandhoo.  

The court has placed Ranjini Jeevananthan and Looth Ibrahim in remand in custody for 15 days, and Ahmed Rishmah for five days. 

According to Looth and Rishmah's remand order, Police had arrested them through an operation conducted to find out who came to retrieve the Malaysian's drug-filled luggage. When Ranjini Jeevananthan had gone to the guesthouse where she had booked her stay, Looth and Rishmah arrived there to pick up the luggage. 

When the two spotted Police officers there, they attempted to flee. Both have also refused to provide urine samples for testing.
