The project has been awarded to MTCC. It has been decided to connect Maafushi and the reclaimed area with a bridge designed to allow water currents to flow underneath.

The reclamation of 25 hectares of land in Maafushi was completed in 2021. The land was reclaimed at a cost of MVR 118 million from the state. It has been decided to use 45 percent of the reclaimed land to provide housing plots for the residents of the island.

300 housing plots have been issued from the reclaimed land in Maafushi, which is the island where the guesthouse business is most extensively operated in the Maldives.
