Maldivian Umrah pilgrims currently in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, have been advised by the Islamic Ministry to reach out to the Maldivian embassy should they face any difficulties arising from the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

In an announcement issued today, the ministry urged pilgrims to exercise caution during their travels in the city.

They called on pilgrims to stay up to date on the latest advisories and to comply with advice and instructions from the Saudi government.

If pilgrims need assistance due to conflict-related issues, they can reach out the Maldives Embassy in Riyadh on their hotline +966550689447, or the Maldives Consulate in Jeddah on +966530838329.

The ministry also announced that they are in the process of setting up a dedicated hotline to provide information to Umrah pilgrims.

The ministry is closely monitoring the situation of Maldivian pilgrims, the ministry stated. According to the ministry, there are 2154 Maldivians engaged in the Umrah pilgrimage. This includes 1624 pilgrims who travelled through 20 private companies, and 530 who went through the Hajj Corporation.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu last night established a special committee comprised of nine cabinet ministers in response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
