A Malaysian woman has been arrested at Velana International Airport on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives.
Ranjini Jeevananthan, 38, was arrested after a large quantity of drugs were found in her luggage during inspection after arrival in Maldives, Police confirmed. The exact amount of drugs found has not been disclosed as of yet.
The Criminal Court yesterday placed her in remand in custody for 15 days.
The court order stated that sufficient evidence to support the charges was submitted.
The court has granted her request to seek legal representation.
