Ministry of Higher Education has said it will take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of Maldivian students in the Middle East following escalating hostilities in the region.

In a statement, the ministry said the government is concerned about the wellbeing of Maldivian students studying in countries affected by the unrest triggered by joint US and Israeli attacks on Iran.

“We are closely monitoring developments in the region. We assure you that we will maintain continuous contact with relevant agencies, diplomatic missions and educational institutions to provide necessary assistance and cooperation to Maldivian students,” the ministry said.

It added that the ministry stands ready to take all required steps to safeguard students during the crisis.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu yesterday established a special committee comprising nine ministers to coordinate measures in response to difficulties faced by Maldivians living in the affected region amid the escalating tensions.

United States and Israel launched a joint strike on Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks by Iran on US military bases in the Middle East.
