The Government of the Republic of Maldives has expressed “profound concern” over the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.
In a statement, the government denounced attacks by all sides and urged an immediate de-escalation of tensions.
It called for the restoration of peace and stability, and for all parties to act in full respect of international law and their obligations under the United Nations Charter.
“The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be fully respected by all parties at all times,” the statement said.
Maldives reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and underscored the importance of collective efforts to maintain regional and global peace and stability.
The statement comes as the conflict has disrupted air travel across the region. Many tourists have been stranded in the Maldives following the closure of airspace in several Middle Eastern countries.
Some flights to and from the Maldives have also been cancelled, affecting transit routes through major regional hubs.
