Following the commencement of attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, which led to the start of a war in the Middle East and the closure of airspace, MACL, the operator of Velana International Airport, issued a special advisory today for those traveling to the region.
In the advisory issued by the company, travelers to Middle Eastern countries are urged to be vigilant.
Accordingly, passengers are instructed to obtain information regarding their scheduled flights through airline websites and tour operators before proceeding to the airport.
The points highlighted for attention in the advisory are:
- Obtaining the latest travel information through the airline's website or mobile application.
- Obtaining the latest information on travel and flights through tour operators and following the instructions provided by them.
- Planning travel arrangements well in advance.
As the joint attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran began today, creating the fear of a major war in the Middle East, all flights arriving in Maldives from that region have been canceled. Due to the ongoing unrest in the Middle East, nine flights were canceled today because of the closure of Middle Eastern airspace.
Following the joint attacks by the United States and Israel, Iran has begun launching strikes on many countries in the region as a retaliatory measure.
Due to the ongoing conflict, all travel to Dubai, Sharjah, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Doha has come to a halt. Dubai and Doha are the primary transit destinations for the majority of tourists arriving in the Maldives from Europe and other regions.
Therefore, with the closure of airspace, the arrival of tourists to the Maldives from those regions will also completely stop.
