A special ceremony was held on Tuesday to honor former Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen, who retired after 32 years of service in the Maldives Police Service.
The event was attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan, Deputy Commissioner and acting head of police Farhad Fikry, senior officers, personnel of various ranks and department staff.

Speakers at the ceremony thanked Naveen for his leadership and contributions to public safety and security.
Naveen, who assumed the role of Commissioner in June last year, formally informed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of his decision to retire on the 18th of this month.
He said he was proud to have served in the police force and, after careful reflection, believed it was the right time to step down to allow for a smooth transition in leadership.

Naveen was appointed commissioner following the abrupt retirement of his predecessor, Ali Shujau, in April last year. Prior to his formal appointment, he served as acting head of the service.
He retired amid heightened public scrutiny and protests over the fall of a young woman from a building in Malé.
At the time of his appointment, Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry and Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shameem had also contested for the post, but President Muizzu ultimately selected Naveen.
