Voters registered in locations where ballot boxes will not be placed, as well as those whose ballot secrecy could be compromised have been given the opportunity to reregister for the upcoming local council and women's development committee elections.
In two separate announcements issued yesterday, Elections Commission (EC) listed locations where polling stations will not be placed for the 4 April local council elections, women’s development committee elections and the presidential and parliamentary referendum.
The locations include:
- 28 resorts
- Hulhule', Thilafushi and GDh. Kaadedhdhoo
- Malaysia
- Sri Lanka
Voters who had registered in these locations may re-register at an alternative polling station until 1:30 pm tomorrow.
EC also said it would publish the details of voters whose ballot secrecy could be compromised, allowing them to change their registration.
The initial re-registration deadline expired on Tuesday, during which 26,454 people submitted applications.
According to the commission, the decision not to place ballot boxes in certain resorts, industrial islands and overseas locations was made due to insufficient registrations.
