Nolhivaranfaru faced a long power cut yesterday due to one of two generators used in the island's Fenaka power house facing technical issues. The generator has now been fixed, and power has been restored on the entire island.
The island utilizes an 800kW generator and a 400kW generator to provide electricity to the whole island. Of these, the 800kW generator faced issues yesterday, and had to be shut down.
This left the island without electricity from around 8am yesterday. Electricity supply was rotated around different zones of the island with the use of the 400kW generator throughout the day. The island's health centre was provided electricity through a backup generator.
Nolhivaranfaru Council President Abdulla Nadheem confirmed that the issue had been resolved last night, and electricity supply has now been restored.
